Local businesses that rely on tourism have been impacted, once again, by wildfires this past summer. Wells Gray Air, located in Clearwater, BC, offers cool heights and amazing sights soaring above Wells Gray Provincial Park. However, the wildfires shut down air travel throughout the prime season this past summer. Tourists from around the world were cancelling their trips due to park closure and poor media communications to tourists abroad.
Community Futures Thompson Country, along with offices in Williams Lake, Quesnel, and Ashcroft, recognize that wildfires are common in the Cariboo-Chilcotin and Thompson-Nicola regions, which has led to the creation of the Wildlife Business Transition Program. The Program provided Wells Gray Air with marketing and training grants that will provide marketing support towards next year’s endeavour. “We are confident that 2019 will be a great year with our additional marketing and training, and we will see positive impact for both Wells Gray Air and the community,” said Rock Whitney, President at Wells Gray Air.
